How do I register a new domain?
Step 1: Go to: https://manage.christianwebhost.com/ or click the "Login" button located at the top right of our website. Unless you change them, your login details are the email address and password used when the account was created.
Step 2: Once logged in, navigate to the Register Domain page, which is where you need to be to register a new domain.
- On your client area homepage, there is a tool in the main section, as well as a link in the Shortcuts menu on the left (Register a New Domain).
- There is a link in the Actions menu on the My Domains page.
Step 3: Once you get to the Register Domain page, you can enter your preferred domain in the search field and hit Search (you will also need to fill in the captcha).
Step 4: Proceed based on domain availability.
- Domain Available: If the domain is available, you will see:
- A Congratulations! Message.
- The registration cost.
- An Add to Cart button. Click the button to add the domain to your cart.
- A list of similar domains that you can register as well by clicking the Add button.
- Domain Unavailable: If the domain is not available, the system will generate a list of similar available domains, along with varying TLDs. You can try searching again or select one of the suggested domains. To add a suggested domain to your card, click the Add to Cart button.
Step 5: Once you have your new domain(s) in your cart, click the Checkout button (the Add to Cart button changes to a Checkout button once selected).
Step 6: Next, you will see any additional products available for your domain (for example, you can add hosting to your domain by clicking the link under the domain name).
Step 7: Once you have your products and set your nameservers, click Continue to proceed.
Step 8: Review your order. Be sure to read the Terms of Service and check the box.
Step 9: After reviewing the order and selecting your contact information and payment method, click Checkout in the upper right corner of the order summary to complete your purchase. Once processed, your domain(s) will be registered.
Step 10: There is a short time frame after registration that you may not be able to use the domain (while the domain registration is finalized), but it should be available within 1-2 hours.
How do I renew my domain registration?
You can renew your domain or set it to auto-renew from your client area.
Step 1: Go to: https://manage.christianwebhost.com/ or click the "Login" button located at the top right of our website. Unless you change them, your login details are the email address and password used when the account was created.
Step 2: Once logged in, click the Domains block to navigate to the My Domains page.
Step 3: On the left, you will see the Manage menu. Click Renew in the Actions menu to proceed.
- You can also select “Renew a Domain” in the “What would you like to do today?” section at the bottom of your screen.
Step 4: The next page allows you to select the domain(s) you wish to renew, as well as the number of years for which you would like to renew the domain. Select your domains and your terms, and then click Continue.
Step 5: You will be prompted to proceed with checkout. This will generate an invoice for your order. Once payment is made, the domain(s) will be renewed.
Can I renew my domain automatically?
If you do not wish to renew your domain manually every year (or every couple of years), you can enable the auto-renewal on the domain. This way, you will be invoiced 30 days before the domain's expiration. As long as the invoice is processed successfully, the domain will automatically renew on the expiry date.
Step 1: Go to: https://manage.christianwebhost.com/ or click the "Login" button located at the top right of our website. Unless you change them, your login details are the email address and password used when the account was created.
Step 2: Once logged in, click the Domains block to navigate to the My Domains page.
Step 3: Select the domain you wish to update by clicking the row. You can click anywhere on the box, except the domain name (this will take you to the domain’s website).
Step 4: In the Manage menu, you will see Auto Renew. Here is where you can set the domain to renew automatically. This will cause the system to invoice you for the renewal 30 days before the due date and then renew the domain on the expiry date.
- If you want to cancel the auto-renewal of your domain, you can toggle it off here. You will still be notified of upcoming expiry dates, but not invoiced automatically. If you change your mind before the domain expires or during the Renewal phase of the domain life cycle, you can always renew the domain manually by clicking Renew Domain in the Actions menu. Most customers leave Auto Renew enabled unless they are cancelling the domain.
10-Year Registration Limit
You can only register a domain for up to 10 years. The date on a domain registration never changes, so even if you have nine years and one day remaining on your registration, you will not be able to add another year to it.
How do I cancel my domain registration?
There is no way to ‘cancel’ a domain registration. All you can do is let it expire. If you no longer wish to keep your domain, you will need to cancel the auto-renewal for the domain from your client area.
We will still send you notices that the domain's expiry date is approaching, in case you change your mind.
Important: Please be aware that if your registration expires, there is no guarantee that you will be able to register it again later.
Domain Life Cycle
Once a domain expires, it goes through several phases.
- Renewal – (30-45 days): After the expiry date on your domain registration, your domain will enter Renew (or autoRenew) status. During this time, your domain will be inactive. Your DNS will be down, and your site and emails will not function. You can renew the domain at any time during this phase by renewing it from your client area or by paying an outstanding invoice. There are no additional costs for renewing the domain during this phase.
- Redemption – (varies):
- Redemption is the status applied to a domain registration that has expired for 30-45 days (this time varies by registrar). During this time, the registrar manages the domain name at their own expense, so an additional fee is added to the renewal cost should the owner decide to restore it. During this phase, the domain DNS is still inactive.
- The time a domain stays in Redemption, as well as the redemption fee, will vary depending on the registrar and TLD.
- These payments must be processed manually. If you would like us to contact the registrar to retrieve the domain from redemption status, please reach out to our customer support team using our live chat, emailing support, or calling our phone support.
- Pending Delete – (varies): Once your domain reaches this status, it is essentially cancelled. The domain is not usable, and you will not be able to renew it at any cost. At this point, all you can do is wait for the domain to be released and hope no one else registers it before you. The amount of time a domain stays in this status varies, but it is typically 5 to 6 days.
- Released: Once the domain is released, it can be registered by anyone. This is essentially like a domain that has never been registered. As long as the domain is not registered by someone else, you can register it just as you would a new domain. If someone else registers the domain, you will not be able to recover it.
